Got started on a major preoccupation - a deep study of Lisp In Small Pieces. Scheme An Introduction to Scheme and its Implementation.pdf. What books have people read and found to be really good? I have also read good reviews on Lisp in small pieces and Advanced C programming. Now, the programming concepts book that I really want would be the successor to Lisp in Small Pieces (ISBN 0-521-56247-3), but AFAICT, it hasn't been finished. For some reason, amazon.ca has Lisp in Small Pieces by Christian Queinnec for CDN$3.95. Do any of these topics have better books? Chapter 5 of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs and chapter 7 of Lisp in Small Pieces both present byte-code interpreting virtual machines for Scheme that are implemented in Scheme.
